Arlene Bertha (Bard) Ryder

September 9, 1938 — December 11, 2023

Greencastle, PA

Mrs. Arlene Bertha (Bard) Ryder, 85, of Greencastle, went to be with her Lord and Savior early Monday Morning, December 11, 2023, at Heritage Retirement Community. Born September 9, 1938, at home in Quincy, PA, along with her twin sister, Marlene Bard Rubeck, they are daughters of the late Andrew Ross and Pauline Katherine Fittry Bard.

Arlene was a 1956 graduate of the former St. Thomas High School. She became a traditional homemaker in every sense of the word, enjoying cooking, including cooking for the hunting camp, baking, sewing, gardening and maintaining an organized household. She cherished spending time with her family, children, grandchildren, and many friends and loved inviting people over for dinner so she could showcase her cooking and baking talents.

Arlene was a Godly woman who was passionate about caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, supporting grandchildren in sports. Arlene was very much a humanitarian and known for her compassionate care for anyone needing it. She was an active member of The Antrim Brethren in Christ Church, Chambersburg, where she was an active greeter for many years.

In addition to her twin sister, Marlene, Arlene is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Doanld Ryder, whom she married on December 15, 1956, in Ft. Loudon, PA; four sons, Rick A. Ryder (Crystal Hornbaker) of Greencastle, PA, Mark McCullough (Darlene) of Fayetteville, PA, Roger L. Ryder of Chambersburg, PA, and Randy E. Ryder (Patricia) of Hagerstown, MD; 7 grandchildren, Randy Jr., Jeremy, Ashley, Brittany, Brooke, Lauren, Blake; and 10 great grandchildren; Bryana, Mason, Bailey, Dawson, McKinlee, Beckett, Emerson, Eleanor, Tommy, and Dempsey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded by 5 siblings, Jean Louise Bard Lake, Larry Ross Bard, Harry Chester Bard, Marvin Ray Bard, and Robert Bard, Sr., and great-grandson, Avery Burkhart.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 18, 2023, at 1 PM at Antrim Brethren in Christ Church, 24 Kauffman Rd., East, Chambersburg, PA, where Pastor Casey Hurst will officiate.
