Arlan Eugene Martin

Arlan Eugene Martin, age 80 of Hagerstown, MD, passed away unexpectedly at Meritus Medical Center on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. Born August 27, 1943, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Alta E. Martin and Leroy Horst.

Mr. Martin was a 1961 graduate of South Hagerstown High School. He was a lifetime farmer and after semi -retiring in 1997, he went on to work as a truck driver, working at Jerr-Dann and ultimately retiring in 2019 from Legacy Drive-Away Solutions. Mr. Martin attended Northside Mennonite Church. He was a member of the Redmen of Williamsport, MD. Mr. Martin enjoyed snowmobiling, farming, riding motorcycles and going to the Cabin in Potter County, PA.

Surviving is his loving wife of 60 years, Doris Shafer Martin, whom he married on November 17, 1962; four children, Cindy L. Kirby (James) of Clear Spring, MD, A. Duane Martin (Sharon) of Clear Spring, MD, Cathy S. Martin (Matthew) of Sellersville, PA, and Angel D. Gross (Kevin) of Smithsburg, MD; 13 grandchildren, James Kirby III (Allison), Jessica Harshman (Hunter), Benjamin Martin (Aurielle), Robert Martin (Nicole), Tessa Babler (Jake), Macayla Martin (Forrest), Darius Hardy Gross, Cierra Lane Gross, Madeline Rose, Sage Gross, Ella Gross, Chanz Flores Gross, and Taylor Gross; seven great-grandchildren; six siblings, Steve Ardinger, Mary Clouser (Don), and James, David, Terry, and Jeff (Vickie) Horst; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Gene Wiles.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at 10 AM in the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc. 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA 17225, where Pastor Gary Zook will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 26, 2023, from 6 – 8 PM in the funeral home above. Interment will be private in Cedar Lawn Cemetery.
