Anna Elizabeth (McDonald) Shockey, age 93, who resided at the SpiriTrust Lutheran Village at Luther Ridge of Chambersburg, PA and formerly of Greencastle, PA died at 6:45 AM, Saturday, February 27, 2016 in her residence.
Born November 5, 1922 in Greencastle, Franklin County, PA, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd T. Sr. “Tuck” and Frances Helen (Roll) McDonald. She married Paul K. Shockey on February 28, 1946. He died on September 18, 2012.
Anna worked as a registered nurse at the former Washington County Hospital of Hagerstown and at the Fulton County Medical Center. She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Greencastle and the church’s Lutheran Church Women. She was a volunteer for many years with the American Red Cross Blood Mobile
Anna was an active member of the Greencastle-Antrim Homemakers and was a member of the Greencastle-Antrim Loyal Daughters. She was a 1940 graduate of Greencastle High School and was a graduate of the Washington County Hospital School of Nursing.
She lived in Antrim Township most of her married life, but from 1969-1986, she and her husband Paul, who was the co-founder of JLG Industries, moved to McConnellsburg, PA. Over the years, she was always very supportive of her husband’s business career.
Anna enjoyed taking walks. She and Paul enjoyed traveling and took their three granddaughters on many trips.
Surviving family are two sons, Kenneth B. Shockey and wife Bonnie of Greencastle, James N. Shockey of Ringgold, MD, three granddaughters, Nikki R. Metzler and husband Dean, Jodi L. Plum and husband Eric, Anni M. Rhule and husband Mike, six great-grandchildren and one sister Katherine Hill of the Shook Home in Chambersburg.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers Lloyd T. “Toby” McDonald Jr., Wally McDonald and a sister Clarabelle “Susie” Robertson.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday March 2 at 11:00 AM from the Evangelical Lutheran Church 130 North Washington St. Greencastle with Rev. Martin H. Horn officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle on Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and at the church one hour before the service on Wednesday.
