Anna "Jean" Rice

Anna “Jean” (Lindsay) Rice, 89, of Greencastle, PA passed away Thursday, February 20, 2025 in Mercy House of Chambersburg. Born March 1, 1935 in Greencastle, she was the daughter of the late John Bernard and Beulah (Shank) Lindsay. 

Jean was a graduate of Greencastle High School with the Class of 1953. She and her late husband, Robert L. Rice, were married June 12, 1954. He passed away April 6, 2005 after nearly 52 years of marriage. From 1956 until they opened Rice’s Meat Market in 1967 Jean and Bob farmed together. After closing the meat market in 1986 the Rice’s started a long-haul trucking business driving from coast to coast weekly until their retirement in 1998.

Jean was a member of Grace United Church of Christ of Greencastle where she was a member of the Snyder Guild. She was also instrumental in helping start Grace’s Closet at the church. Jean enjoyed reading and watching old western movies.

She is survived by two daughters, Cathy Keefer and her husband Cy and Ruby Eberly and her husband Tom; two step-grandchildren, Heather Kline and her husband Sam and Michael Eberly; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brother, Charles Lindsay.

Services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, February 24, 2025 in Grace United Church of Christ, 128 E. Baltimore Street, Greencastle, PA 17225 with Pastor Mark Ruzicka officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle. 

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM in Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle Street, Greencastle, PA 17225 as well as one hour prior to the service Monday morning in the church.
