Alyce Zimmerman Rauschenberger, age 94 of Hagerstown, MD died at 12:27 A.M. Thursday September 13, 2012 in her home.
Born March 1, 1918 in Welsh Run, PA, she was the daughter of the late Harry M. and Jessie M. (Royer) Zimmerman.
She was married to Otto C. Rauschenberger Jr. on July 31, 1948 in the Robert Kennedy Memorial Church in Welsh Run. He died on May 17, 2005.
Alyce began teaching school in Pennsylvania and then taught 3rd grade in the Washington County School System for many years retiring in 1977. She was a 1936 graduate of Greencastle High School and received her B.S. degree in elementary education from Shippensburg State College in 1945.
She was a member of the John Wesley United Methodist Church of Hagerstown and a member of the Queen Esther Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 3 of Hagerstown..
Surviving family are one son O.C. "Chris" (wife Joan) Rauschenberger, Welsh Run, PA, sister -in-law, Jean K. Zimmerman, Greencastle, one step-granddaughter Sondra Kline, Alexandria, VA and a number of step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother Harold M. Zimmerman, two half brothers Harry R. Zimmerman, Lloyd Zimmerman , one half sister, Jane T. Figley and a step-grandson Andrew M. Rill.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday September 16 at 3:00 P.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Pastor William Warehime officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. There will be no public viewing but the family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service on Sunday. The family requests that flowers be omitted with memorial contributions be given in her memory to Hospice Of Washington County Inc. 747 Northern Ave. Hagerstown, MD 21742. The family extends their thanks to Hospice of Washington County, Comfort Keepers and especially to caregiver Sandy Johnson for all their loving care and thoughtfulness shown to their loved one.
