Alvin A. Hicks, age 94, a resident of the Quarters at the Shook Home, Chambersburg, PA. and formerly of 8335 Molly Pitcher Hwy., Greencastle, PA., died at 7:40 A.M. Friday, August 3, 2007 in the Quarters.
Born April 29, 1913 in Coseytown, Antrim Twp., PA., he was the son of the late Albertus and Emma (Brindle) Hicks.
He and his wife Catherine M. (Statler) Hicks were married June 9, 1934 in Hagerstown, MD. She died September 22, 2001.
Mr. Hicks began his career repairing and selling automobiles in the Hagerstown area in the early 1930''s, before opening the former Marion Auto Body Works of Marion, PA. in 1938. From 1942-1946 during World War II he entered defense work with the former Fairchild Aircraft of Hagerstown, MD. Then in 1950 Mr. Hicks founded Hicks Chevrolet Inc. of Greencastle, PA. and operated the dealership until his retirement.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greencastle. He was a member of the Greencastle Lions Club for over 60 years, where he was a past president and became a Melvin Jones Fellow in 1996. He was life member of the Greencastle Rescue Hose Company No. 1 and the Greencastle Sportsman Association. He was a former director of the Greencastle-Antrim Area Development Corporation and Franklin County Area Development. He was a member of the Greencastle-Antrim Chamber of Commerce. He served on the Board of Associates of the former Citizens National Bank of Greencastle, PA.
Surviving family are:
One Daughter, Leona H. Witmer of Harrisonburg, VA.
Two Sons, Kermit G. Hicks of Greencastle, PA and Roger A. Hicks of Riverton, WY.
One Sister, Ferne Tritle of Greencastle, PA.
11 Grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one daughter Phyllis H. Utterback, three sisters, Velda Myers, Rhoda Swisher and Julia Burkett and a brother Glenn D. Hicks.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 10, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. from the First United Methodist Church, 45 N. Washington St., Greencastle, PA. with Rev. Stacy Crawford officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, PA. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 P.M. on Friday. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the First United Methodist Church, 45 N. Washington St., Greencastle, PA. 17225, Shook Home, 55 S.
