Aldine D. Martin

Aldine D. Martin, age 88 of Greencastle, PA died unexpectedly Friday afternoon November 17, 2017 at his home from injuries he received in a fall while putting up Christmas lights at his home.

Born April 30, 1929 in York, PA, he was the son of the late Henry and Edna (Martin) Martin. He married his wife Margaret L. (Eshleman) Martin on May 6, 1951

Aldine started working by operating a Farmers Market and then along with his wife founded   Sunnyway Foods in 1955 in Greencastle and in 1974 opened the Chambersburg store. They also founded Keystone Ford now in Chambersburg and Keystone RV Center near State Line.

He was a member of the Cedar Street Mennonite Church of Chambersburg where he served in various positions and offices. He served as a board member for a number of local organizations including 30 years at Menno Haven in Chambersburg, The Chambersburg Hospital, Cove Valley Camp of Mercersburg, Cedar Ridge Children’s Home in Williamsport, MD, Franklin County United Way and the former First National Bank of Greencastle.

Aldine enjoyed traveling worldwide over the years and going on cruises and had recently returned from a trip to the West Indies. At the age of 16, he served with a Heifer program,  traveling to Poland.

Surviving family in addition to his wife are two sons, Dean Martin and wife Marcy of Greencastle, Michael Martin and wife Linda of Greencastle, four grandchildren, Derek Martin and wife Megan, Erica Spangler and husband Toby, Lyza Martin, Tanner Martin, two great-grandchildren, Talan and Tripp Martin, two sisters, Lowe Mae Crider of Shippensburg, PA and Miriam Freisen of Manheim, PA

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Vernon Martin, Ivan Martin and Gerald Martin.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday November 22 at 11:00 AM at the Marion Mennonite Church 4365 Molly Pitcher Hwy. Chambersburg with Pastors Larry Lehman and Steve Wingfield officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Marion Mennonite Church on Tuesday from 4:00 – 8:00 PM and one hour before the service on Wednesday.
