Roy E. Mitchell, age 77, of East Ave. State Line, PA went home to be with his Lord on Friday morning, March 17, 2017 in the Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD from complications of a fall at his home on Wednesday evening March 15.

Born April 13, 1939 in Middle Creek Twp. Somerset County, PA, he was the son of the late Leroy and Goldie (Gary) Mitchell. He married Virginia L. (Miller) Mitchell on November 8, 1962 in the Milford EUB Church.

He retired from Mack Trucks of Hagerstown in 1994 after 30 ½ years of employment. He graduated from Somerset Area High School in 1957 and was a Veteran of the US Navy, having served 4 ½ years.

He was a member of the Grace Bible Church of Greencastle, member of Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter #14 of Funkstown, MD and the Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post #373 of Greencastle. Roy was also a member of the Greencastle Sportsman Association and the UAW Local #171 of Hagerstown.

Roy enjoyed talking to people about the Lord and it was important in his life to serve the Lord. He also enjoyed working on his truck farm at his home, hunting and fishing.

Surviving family in addition to his wife of 54 years are two daughters Amy Spencer and husband David of Greencastle, Sherry Mitchell of Roy, Washington, two grandsons, Kyle Spencer, who is a US Air Force Veteran, and his girlfriend Stephanie Eberly and Ian Spencer, currently a Corporal in the US Marine Corps and one brother Paul Mitchell of New Centerville, PA.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday March 22 at 10:30 AM at the Grace Bible Church 2327 Hoffman Rd. Greencastle with Pastors Herm Fisler and Greg Kell officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Post #1599 Honor Guard will be in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle and at the church one hour before the service on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the DAV Chapter # 14 11837 Hanging Rock Rd.
