Joseph J. “Popski” Szaflarski, age 78 of Greencastle, PA passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning January 10, 2018 in his home.

Born October 12, 1939 in Altoona, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph F. Szaflarski and Rose (Frank) Siemen. He married his wife Vi (Guzic) Szaflarski on September 16, 1961.

He retired from Mack Trucks of Hagerstown in 2001 after 31 years of service. He served in the US Army Reserves.

Joe was a member of the St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church of Greencastle. He was a member of the Greencastle VFW, Greencastle American Legion, Greencastle Sportsman’s Association and the Patton Sportsmen Club. He was one of the founders of the Greencastle Midget Football and Greencastle QB Club. He also coached Little League Baseball and Midget Football.

Joe loved spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, cabin time, following all his grandchildren in their sporting events and he loved and adored his wife Vi of 56 years.

Surviving family in addition to his wife are daughter Lisa Walck and husband Tim of Greencastle, son Joseph Szaflarski and wife Dana of Greencastle, son John Szaflarski and wife Tammy of Greencastle, daughter Karen McGonigal of Greencastle, daughter, Theresa Alleman of Greencastle, son James Szaflarski and wife Lisa of Greencastle, 13 grandchildren, Sean, Shayla, Natalie, Tyler, Courtney, Hunter, Megan, Brian, Travis, Trevor, Taylor, Jace, Jarek and 1 great-grandson Maverick.

A memorial funeral mass will be held on Tuesday January 16 at 11:00 AM at the St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church 385 S. Ridge Ave. Greencastle with Father Kyle Sahd officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church 385 S. Ridge Ave. Greencastle, PA 17225 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105. Online condolences maybe given at www.zimmermanfh.com
