Jack S. Wells, age 83, of Greencastle, PA, passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born June 14, 1938, in Waynesboro, PA he was the son of the late Orville S. and Ruth Bitner Wells.
Jack was a 1956 graduate of the Greencastle-Antrim High School. Jack went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Navy. He worked in many facets of the logistics industry, last as a logistics broker/owner for many years. Jack was a gifted athlete having played all sports through High School. He excelled in his favorite sport baseball, having played for many teams including the Philadelphia Phillies farm system. Jack continued to play softball throughout his life where he was part of two PA State Championship teams and two Softball Men’s over 65 World Series championship teams. When he wasn’t playing softball, he enjoyed golfing, singing Karaoke, spending time with family, and socializing. He was a member of many of the area social clubs to include the Greencastle VFW and American Legion, the Waynesboro Eagles Club, the Moose, and the Elks Clubs to name a few.
Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Doris A. Pensinger Wells, whom he married on September 6, 1959, a son Steven D. Wells (wife Susan) of Waynesboro, PA; five grandchildren, Maj. Jeremy Naugle (wife Shannon) of Monroe, NC, Cody Fittry (significant other Jamie) of Fannettsburg, PA, Andrew Payne, Christopher Payne, and John Payne all of Waynesboro, PA; five great grandchildren, Amy Naugle, Madison Leistner (husband Corey), Carson Onamastico (wife Kennedy), Bree Fittry, and Zoey Fittry; one great-great granddaughter, Jaela Naugle; and a son in law, Ted Fittry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tawny Fittry in 2008.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at 10 AM at the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc. 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA 17225, with Maj. Jeremy L. Naugle officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 4 from 6 – 8 PM and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Jerome R. King Playground Association, P.O.
