Avery M. Wingert

Avery M. Wingert, age 103, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at Chambers Pointe Health Care Center. Born February 20, 1920, in Duffield, PA, he was the son of the late Milton and Clara Garber Wingert.

Mr. Wingert was a graduate of Thompson Business School. Mr. Wingert owned and operated Hagerstown Automotive for over 50 years; he also owned stores in Hancock, MD, Boonsboro, MD, Williamsport, MD, and Berkley Springs, WV. He was a member of Hollowell Brethren in Christ Church, where he served as a Deacon, a youth director, and on various church boards and committees. Mr. Wingert enjoyed golf, wood crafting, gardening, and mission travels, especially to Peru, Africa, and Haiti.

Surviving family are four children, Ray Wingert and wife Penny of Bend, OR, Dwight Wingert and wife Barbara of Hagerstown, MD, Norma Fries and husband John, Sarasota, FL, and Beverly Wingert, St. Petersburg, FL, eight grandchildren; Jennifer Crane, David Kline, Amanda Wingert, Kimberlee Ballis, Matthew Gross, Bradley Fries, Megan Fries, Justin Fries, ten great-grandchildren, and a brother, Rev. Gerald N. Wingert of Messiah Village, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Grace E. Peckman Wingert in 2016, a daughter, Linda Carlson, and siblings, Chester, Laban, Raymond, Blaine, Gilmore, Pearl, Helen, and Verda.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 23, 2023, at 10:30 AM at the Hollowell Brethren In Christ Church 14807 Hollowell Church Rd. Waynesboro with Rev. Blaine Lougheed officiating. The family will receive friends at the above church and address on Sunday, October 22, 2023, from 6-8 PM and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Graveside services will be private at Air Hill Cemetery, Chambersburg, PA.
